Simon Cowell is stepping down as a judge on American Idol, after audience figures for the show took a massive tumble.
Simon, who has now appeared in seven seasons of the talent show, revealed he does not intend to carry on after his current contract elapses in three years.
He picked out Donald Trump as his ideal replacement.
The news comes as ratings for this year's show, which finished on Wednesday, dipped to 25 million, way below last year's figures of 36.3m.
Trump announced this week he was quiting The Apprentice after NBC found no place for the show in its primtime slots.
According to the Mirror Simon said: 'I'll have done 10 seasons by then and it'll be time to do something else.
'Meanwhile, new people can be brought in...'
One consolation to the dropping audience figures, apart from the millions he still rakes in, is his upcoming appearance on ITV's new series of This Is Your Life.
British viewers will be able to see the episode featuring the music mogul on June 2.
