Celeb-a-razzi: 'Idol' ratings plummet, Trump goes after Hasselbeck, Paris Hilton makes it a Blockbuster night

Idol' ratings down

Wednesday's "American Idol" finale pulled in 29.5 million viewers, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research -- a sharp drop from the 36.4 million who tuned into the finale a year prior. Here's our three-point plan to fix the show next year: 1) Get better contestants; 2) get better contestants; and 3) get better contestants. Carry on, gents.

Ranking 'Idol' performances

In more "Idol" news, Entertainment Weekly has compiled its list of the top 10 "Idol" performances ever, and even though the magazine has early deadlines, we're pretty sure Jordin Sparks singing "This is My Now" wouldn't have shaken things up much. Carrie Underwood's "Alone" takes their No. 1 spot, followed by Kelly Clarkson's "Stuff Like That There," Clay Aiken's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and Fantasia Barrino's "Summertime." As for this year's much-debated season, only Melinda Doolittle's My Funny Valentine" (No. 7) makes the list. As for the worst performance? "All of the final six contestants from Season 3 during Gloria Estefan Week" takes the top spot, though it's worth noting Sanjaya performances were disqualified from the running, so as not to overtake the whole list.

Trump gives 'The View' more press

With Rosie O'Donnell's time on "The View" ticking away, Donald Trump is picking a fight with one of her "View" co-hosts, Elisabeth Hasselbeck . "Well, Elisabeth's right: I am very obnoxious. The sad part about Elisabeth is that she is the dumbest person on television," Trump tells TV's "Inside Edition." Care to elaborate, Trump? "I mean she's supporting the war in Iraq, which is pretty hard to do," he says. What gets us is Trump's devotion to, of all things, "The View." When it comes to daytime TV, we always pictured him as more of a "Judge Mathis" guy.

# Paris Hilton was pictured renting the film "Innocent" from a Blockbuster Video this week. Wait, you mean she doesn't do Netflix?

# Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder" returns to the top spot on this week's Billboard Hot 100, after being ousted last week by T-Pain's "Buy You a Drank."

# And here we thought Ashley was the one with all the talent in the family: Mary-Kate Olsen has scored a role on Showtime's "Weeds," according to Reuters. Olsen will play a devoted Christian who becomes a love interest for Mary Louise Parker's character's son, and is slated to appear in 10 of the 15 episodes in the show's third season, which starts Aug. 13.
