WASHINGTON - Lee Terry may be a member of the U.S. House of Representatives - but he couldn't compete with "American Idol's" big night.
The Omaha congressman postponed a telephone "town hall meeting" planned for Tuesday evening.
The company that handles the calls told him he would have a difficult time getting people on the line because his constituents would rather be parked in front of the tube for Fox's popular reality show.
"I guess that goes to show you," Terry said. "American pop culture is more important than political culture. I understand that."
Terry said he wasn't familiar with the remaining "Idol" contestants, but he took comfort that he wasn't being bumped by Sanjaya, the former contestant with the weird hair.
Terry rejected a suggestion that he could try throwing a few song and dance routines of his own into the teleconferences.
"No, I think that would be gonged very quickly."
Terry rescheduled for 6:15 CDT tonight, hoping people aren't glued to those "Everybody Loves Raymond" reruns.
