We're at the halfway mark in the May "sweeps," with airtight newscast races at both 10 p.m. (among 25-to-54-year-olds) and 6 a.m. (across the board).
A super-padded American Idol results show nonetheless ruled the prime-time roost, luring 390,320 homes. That helped Fox4's 9 p.m. local newscast score a second straight victory in total homes (240,380). It beat competing firstrun episodes of ABC's Lost and CBS' CSI: NY while finishing a competitive second (behind Lost) with advertiser-craved 18-to-49-year-olds.
Belo8 had a big day, too, sweeping the 10 p.m., 6 a.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. news competitions among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming. Fox4 won at 6 a.m. in total homes, with Belo8 taking first place in the other three news slots.
Here are the 10-day Nielsen averages, with Ch. 23's increasingly competitive Spanish language newscast, Noticias 23, also included in the 5 and 10 p.m. numbers. The Univision station competes directly with D-FW's Big Four news providers in those time periods.
