Well, Clive Davis chose scofflaw urinator R. Kelly’s rockin’ hit single “I Believe I Can Fly” for Katherine McPhee last year, so who knows what kind of dung he’ll fling at Jordin tonight.
It’s Clive/Judges/Contestant night on “American Idol.” No more guest “mentors.” More importantly, no more guest “mentor” “performances.” I always feel bad for the remaining contestants when the original “artists” get up there and show all those greenhorns how it’s “done.” Peter Noone? Barry Gibb? Diana Ross? Flawless.
Here’s how it’s shaking up:
Blake
Clive Song: “Solitaire” by Burt Bacharach
Judge Song: “Don’t You Want Me” by The Human League
Blake Song: “Hide and Seek” by Imogen Heap
Melinda
Clive Song: “From a Distance” by Bette Midler
Judge Song: “(I’ve Really Got to Use) My Imagination” by Gladys Knight
Melinda Song: “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban
Jordin
Clive Song: “What a Girl Wants” by X-Tina
Judge Song: “It Must Have Been Love” by Roxette
Jordin Song: “Part of That World” from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”
Best Performance of the Night: Melinda’s song hand picked by the judges, because she needs someone else picking her songs for her.
Worst Performance of the Night: Jordin’s song picked by Jordin.
Biggest Surprise: Blake will take the Clive Davis (why do I keep typing “Owen?") song and make it His Own™.
Three More (Paula Related) Predictions:
1. Regardless of my above guesses, someone will finally sing a Paula Abdul song. I’m thinking Blake doing “Straight Up.”
2. One performance will bring Paula to tears. Finally. We haven’t seen her cry for a long, long time.
3. Her ’stensions will be blue tonight.
What do you see happening? Who’s doing the worst job tonight? Who do you think is in danger? Anything else you want to talk about? The weather? Baseball?
