AMERICAN IDOL - THE FINAL COUNTDOWN RECAP

As my esteemed partner, Sysop has reported, American Idol's 2 hour season finale show closed with Jordin Sparks singing the closing number as the new American Idol. A well deserved winner to be sure. Congrats to her and to Blake as well. I have a funny feeling we may see Blake Lewis cast in a television sit com bringing his beat boxing to the character he plays.

The show was crazy with musical stars singing song after song. Past Idols, Kelly, Ruben, Taylor and Carrie sang several numbers. All were in good voice and looking far more confident than when they sang on the show originally. They all seem to have found their niche in the industry. Clive Davis raved about the success of Daughtry and proceeded to give Carrie Underwood a special award for her accomplishments this year. Kelly is still my favorite, I like that she is down to earth and has remained true to herself in her musical style.

There were performances by some big names in the industry as well. Even if you are not a fan of old school music, you have to admit that Tony Bennett killed it! He belted out a song like the consumate pro that he is. I love Smokey Robinson and he did a great job singing with all the guys of the Idol group. I think he may have visited Kenny Roger's plastic surgeon! Gladys Knight gave a stellar performance. Doug E. Fresh did a number with Blake that was awesome. The two beat boxed like I've never heard. Bette Midler performed, I don't know why exactly. She really struggled to hold her notes and stay in key, it was almost uncomfortable to watch. Melinda Doolittle was spotlighted as she sang a number with BeBe & CeCe Winans.
There were a number of performances by the cast of this season's Idol as well as other well known singers. They crammed so much into this two hour finale that I think everyone has hit the wall. Job well done for Jordin.....For now, I think we are over it. See you for Season 7!
