With the final three competing on "American Idol" tonight for a chance to make it to next week's big finale, we are beginning to see what this season of the popular singing competition won't bring.
Paul McCartney, for one, was mentioned as a possible mentor on a Beatles night that never materialized.
Instead, we got Barry Gibb on a Bee Gees night. Blake Lewis singing "Imagine" on "Idol Gives Back" night was about as close as anyone got to a Beatles song this year.
Mariah Carey was also hinted as a possible mentor and guest star, but she also declined to pop by. We did get Celine Dion singing a special-effects duet with Elvis Presley, also on "Gives Back" night.
Nothing has been announced about this week's competition, except that the top three - Lewis, Melinda Doolittle and Jordin Sparks - will each sing three songs. If it's anything like last season, one of the three songs will be the choice of the singer, the second will be the choice of a judge and the third will be the choice of record producer Clive Davis.
Now, do you remember who was in the final three last year with Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee? (It was Elliott Yamin).
