San Antonio Express-News
Welcome back home, at least for a bit, to Erica Gonzaba.
Her run on "Objetivo Fama" recently ended, and so this home-grown singing idol came back to spend time with her family before returning to Puerto Rico for final tapings of the reality show. Consider it a Latin American version of "American Idol."
On Friday, relatives threw a welcome-back reception at the South Side offices of Gonzaba Medical Group, where two of her most vocal fans were her grandmother, Carmen Gonzaba, and her younger sister, Celine Gonzaba.
By the way, Celine Gonzaba is graduating from Incarnate Word High School (following her older sister) and plans to attend college in New York City.
Meanwhile, Erica Gonzaba is going to sing the national anthem on Monday before the Spurs play the Suns.
National champs
Massive congratulations to the Golden Mules at Alamo Heights High School.
The female color guard drill team recently took first place in the Open Category at the National Drill Team Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Big honor for a small Junior ROTC program.
Motivation
After making the journey from suffering a heart attack at the age of 32 to recovering and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Nenette Madla now shares her story to help others.
She served as a keynote speaker at the Go Red for Women luncheon Friday and spoke about modifying her diet and exercise.
"These major changes in my life were difficult at first," she said. "But I want to grow old with my husband. I want to watch my daughter get married and have children of her own."
Four-star list
In case you missed the news, the Mobil Travel Guide just came out with its list of top spas last week, and the Watermark Hotel and Spa is the only place in this area that received a four-star rating.
Only two other spas in Texas received four stars: The Houstonian in Houston and the Four Seasons at Las Colinas in Irving.
Already, the Watermark reached the four-star level in the hotel category.
And while we're talking about four-star places, there's only one on the restaurant list: Le RĂªve.
What the ...
It's worth mentioning the temple of French dining, and the raves that chef/owner Andrew Weissman has already received from Gourmet magazine and the New York Times.
See, the James Beard Foundation nominated him best chef in the Southwest, but instead gave the award last week to a chef in Scottsdale, Ariz. No offense to Nobuo Fukuda, but Weissman is due.
