Blake Lewis an Underdog to Win American Idol

Oddsmakers at Bookmaker.com, the oldest established online bookmaker catering to the North American betting market, have placed Blake Lewis with odds of nearly 5 to 1 of winning American Idol, this despite the fact that he appears to be the most popular Idol in terms of fan saturation.

"He's the only male; he's original, fresh and marketable," comments Gambling911.com's resident American Idol betting trend expert Payton O'Brien. "At 5 to 1 odds or +500 Blake Lewis would pay out $500 for every $100 bet."

The actual odds were +485 at press time at Bookmaker.com (see website here) which would translate into a $485 win for every $100 bet.

"According to DialIdol.com, Lewis had the most vote counts last week," O'Brien points out. The accuracy of DialIdol.com sometimes comes into question, however, the site acts as a good barometer at times.

Bookmaker.com lists 17 year old Jordin Sparks as the -200 favorite to win. Note the minus (-) sign. This indicates that you would have to bet $200 to win $100 (plus get your initial $200 back for what essentially amounts to a $100 profit).

Season long favorite Melinda Doolittle was listed with odds of +245 or a $100 bet would pay out $245.

Lewis was born in Redmond, Washington to Dallas and Dinah Lewis as the only child. He has been beatboxing since he was seventeen and used to be a member of the a cappella group KickShaw for four years after the graduation from high school in 1999. He quit the group in 2002 and since then became a full-time musician going by the stage name "Bshorty".

Aside from singing and beatboxing, Lewis plays the guitar, piano, drums and has written many songs such as "She Loves The Way" and "Emotional Waterfall". He auditioned for American Idol in Seattle.

Among his more memorable performances, "Somewhere Only We Know" by the group Keane established his own identity early on. None of the judges had ever heard the song, but enjoyed it nonetheless. "All Mixed Up" by 311 was a fun piece as well. "Imagine" by John Lennon was flawless during "Idol Gives Back" week. "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi was perhaps Lewis' most talked about performance as he radically transformed it via a beatbox arrangement.

Lewis has only been mentioned among the bottom three once throughout his tenure on American Idol Season 6.
