Bee Gees night on "American Idol" hardly a ratings bust

The singers had an off night on "American Idol," but the show still posted the strongest ratings Tuesday night. The four finalists averaged 25.5 million viewers, according to ratings released Wednesday afternoon.

The stiffest competition at 8 p.m. came from CBS' "NCIS," which drew 13.9 million.

At 9 p.m., Fox's "House" was tops with 21.4 million watching the irascible doc in action. "Dancing With the Stars" pulled 16.9 million to ABC to witness the ejection of Billy Ray Cyrus. Against that heavy competition, CBS' "The Unit" still drafted 10.7 million fans. Please, CBS: Save that show!

At 10 p.m., NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" arrested 10.9 million and surpassed ABC's "Boston Legal" with nearly 10 million. A repeat of CBS' "Without a Trace" found an impressive 8.2 million fans.

For the night, Fox averaged 23.5 million. The rest: CBS with 10.9 million, ABC with 10.5 million, NBC with 7.6 million and The CW with 2.9 million.

Fox was the formidable No. 1in the 18-to-49 age group. ABC and CBS tied for second, followed by NBC and The CW.
