American Idol's Chris Richardson Gets Big Welcome Home

The city of Chesapeake and Great Bridge High School are giving "American Idol" contestant Chris Richardson a big welcome home.

The event -- billed as a "homecoming" celebration -- will be held at the high school football field this evening. Richardson -- also a former student at Christopher Newport University -- isn't allowed to sing, under his contract with Fox and "Idol."

But he will answer questions from fans chosen by local radio stations. Richardson was voted off the talent competition show earlier this month, leaving four finalists.

Hundreds came out to celebrate Richardson's return to Chesapeake, screaming "Welcome Home Wildcat."

Chris spent more than an hour fielding questions, like "Will you marry me?"

On a more serious note, Chris told Your NewsChannel 3 he's looking forward to touring with Idol and making his own album. "You never know I think it's going to have a little rock spin on it. Hopefully it's a good album," said Richardson.

Chris will tour with the other top Idol contestants, hitting Hampton in September.
