Before we all get whipped into a frenzy because this person or that person got voted out of American Idol I think it is a good time to stop and reflect what American Idol is really all about.
On the surface American Idol has been about finding a person that can win the title of "American Idol" but beneath the surface American Idol has been about giving good talent a platform that never existed prior to American Idol. Sure you may be able to point your finger at this show or that, but there never before has been quite the show as American Idol for discovering talent.
Many of the performers that have appeared on American Idol and reached some level of success can directly attribute their success to the fact that it was because they appeared on American Idol. Finishing first on American Idol isn't and hasn't been what it is all about. Just being on American Idol, getting the exposure and experience is what it has always been about.
The years are full of stories of talented performers that may never have gotten their break, had they not appeared on American Idol.
The most noticeable is Clay Aiken. Ruben Studdard finished first that year and has gone on to a good career in music, but Clay moved on to a much more successful career. Jennifer Hudson went on to win an Academy Award for her singing. Bo Bice finished second to Carrie underwood and has developed a nice career in music. Chris Daughtry, Ace Young and Constantine Maroulis have also moved onto lucrative careers. Kellie Pickler has become a star in her own right and doing very well, you just have to watch the video at the end of this article.
Let's give American Idol credit where credit is due, they have helped a lot of young people get their careers started a heck of a lot quicker than if they had never appeared on American Idol. Just because the person you favor to win the coveted title "American Idol" doesn't win really doesn't mean much because if they have talent, they have been noticed and they will be around for a long time providing music to your ears.
Now about Tuesday nights show and song selection. The contestants sing three songs each, one of their choosing, one of the judges choosing and one chosen by Clive Davis.
Simon is choosing for Jordin. Paula is choosing for Blake and Melinda gets Randy.
Jordin: Simon's Choice - Wishing on A Star by Rose Royce.

Melinda: Randy's choice - Unknown at this time.
