American Idol: The Pro Goes - The Kids Rule

Last week on American Idol, the top four were mentored by Barry Gibb and tackled songs by the Bee Gees and Barry Gibb. Each of the finalists had to learn two songs, which proved difficult. Blake and Lakisha were in the bottom two, and Lakisha was eliminated. This left Blake, Melinda and Jordin as the final three.

Last night, the Idols had to tackle three songs. Each of the judges chose one song for one of the contestants, the producers chose one song, and the contestants chose one song for themselves. Here's what everyone sang:

Jordin:
"Wishing On a Star" by Rose Royce, chosen by Simon
"She Works Hard for the Money" by Donna Summer, chosen by producers
"I Who have Nothing" by Petula Clark, chosen by Jordin

Blake:
"Roxanne" by The Police, chosen by Paula
"This Love" by Maroon Five, chosen by producers
"When I Get You Alone" by Robin Thicke, chosen by Blake

Melinda:
"I Believe in You and Me" by Whitney Houston, chosen by Randy
"Nutbush City Limits" by Tina Turner, chosen by producers
"I am Woman" by Helen Reddy (and others), chosen by Melinda

I'm on the west coast, and I have a friend who is in the central time zone who e-mailed me after he watched the show and expressed his irritation with tonight's results. He sees the show before I do, so his e-mail prompted me to Google the results. So I must admit that I'm typing and watching tonight's show, but I already know how it turns out. It's a jaw-dropper, so if you missed the show, keep reading! I'm still stunned, so I'm going to try to get through the first 45 minutes of fluff as quickly as possible and get to the good stuff!

Homer Simpson opens the show, presumably in honor of the upcoming Simpsons movie and 400th episode. Then an unshaven Ryan Seacrest reopens the show and welcomes the top three. Elliot Yasmin will be singing later in the show, as will Maroon 5. After a quick hello to the judges and a recap of last night's show, and it's already commercial time.

Back from the break, Ryan promotes the upcoming American Idol tour and then settles in with the remaining three Idols on the couch. Jordin talks about how busy they've been, especially last week with their hometown tours and learning three songs. We take a look at Jordin's time at home, complete with a parade, TV and school appearances, and a concert outside the mall. Next, Jordin joins Ryan onstage and he runs through the judges' comments for her from last night. We think he's going to give her results, but of course that has to wait until later in the show.

This week's American Idol challenge winners are in the audience, and then we get this week's question. Ryan sits with Blake next and talks about Blake performing with Sir Mix-a-Lot during his hometown visit. His visit included hundreds of screaming teenagers, a very proud dad, a national anthem, and two outdoor concerts (no partridge in a pear tree). Onstage, Ryan runs through the judges' comments from last night and then sends Blake back to the couches for now.

Here to sing his new single "Wait For You" is Elliot Yasmin, who has had an extreme makeover of huge proportions. His horrible teeth have been replaced by new shiny veneers, his short greasy hair is now long and curly, and he's got a short beard and moustache. I think he may have gotten a nose job too, because his face looks completely different. After the song, the judges, including Simon, congratulate him and welcome him back. Elliot talks to the Idols for a minute and reminds them that this is only the beginning. Then he plugs his upcoming tour, thanks his songwriters, and babbles incoherently about liking Porches (which is a no-no given the Ford sponsorship).
