It’s down to Jordin, Melinda and Blake.
American Idol has reached the semifinals after a predictable elimination of long-shot LaKisha Jones, a 27-year-old from Fort Meade, Md. Jones, a gospel singer with a big voice but a lack of training, was voted off of the nation’s most popular show on Wednesday night.
Her performances Tuesday were panned by the three judges and she’d been the most inconsistent of the finalists in recent weeks. More than 45 million votes were cast as the four remaining contestants performed disco hits from the 1970s by the Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb.
Barring an upset, Blake Lewis will be the next to go, whittling the competition to Season 6’s two strongest vocalists - Melinda Doolittle and Jordin Sparks.
The American Idol odds list Sparks as the 1/2 favorite while Doolittle is the close second choice at 6/5. Lewis is now the long shot at 7/2. Get your bets in before next week’s performance episode airs on Fox.
