American Idol: Bye Bye Kiki - We've Got A Final Three

Episode 37 Recap by Jenny Lane
May 10, 2007
This week, Barry Gibb mentored the group as they tackled Bee Gee/Gibb songs. For the first time, the Idols each had to sing two songs, which could be partly to blame for the surprisingly lackluster performances. Here's what everyone sang:

Melinda - "Love You Inside and Out" and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart"
Blake - "You Should be Dancin" and "This is Where I Came In"
Lakisha - "Stayin Alive" and "Run to Me"
Jordin - "To Love Somebody" and "I am a Woman in Love"

After the performances, it's obvious that Melinda and Jordin should come out on top, and Lakisha and Blake may be in trouble. I do think Blake's fans are loyal and active voters, so that may save him. I also think that the Idols are starting to show the effects of their intense schedule. Jordin and Lakisha both sounded strained and even a little hoarse, Blake was uncharacteristically out of tune and boring, and Melinda was strangely ordinary.

Tonight's results show starts off with Ryan promising performances from Barry Gibb, Pink, a preview of the upcoming movie "Fantastic Four," and a chance to win $100,000. After a quick hello and some banter with the judges (Simon and Paula switched seats for some reason), we get a look back on last night's performances.

Next, Ryan gets comments from people wandering around on the street. Each of the four Idols gets a few nods of approval, and people weigh in on last night's show. We've come to the point in the competition where Ryan has to plug the American Idol tour this summer. It's funny how fast I forgot people like Haley and Chris S.

The first special performance of the night is Pink singing "Who Knew." She's wearing a bizarre dress that looks like a cross between an S&M outfit and a badly tied Christmas ribbon. It also makes her butt look a mile wide, her chest look flat, and her legs look white. In other words, not flattering at all.

LaKisha Jones finishes fourth.
Tonight's Ford commercial is to "You Really Got Me" and is as silly as it always is. In the audience is one of the $10,000 winners of the American Idol Challenge. Then Ryan gives us tonight's question, and reminds us that someone will win $100,000 at the end of the contest.

The four Idols are onstage to perform a tribute to Barry Gibb. Melinda gets the first solo, which is fine once her microphone starts working. Actually, it's not fine - it's rough. The whole song is pretty rough, and sounds like a high school group that didn't have enough time to rehearse. It also makes me wish that they would cut the results show down to a half hour.

Ryan is on the couch with the four finalists. Lakisha says she's preparing herself to not cry if she's the one who goes home. She also says she was nervous last night because a lot went on yesterday - a wardrobe change, a key change, and wishes for another kiss from Simon! Jordin says it was "double the trouble" to have to learn two songs this week. Melinda says she realized last night that she needs to bring more to the show each week.

This week, the four got to go see a sneak peek of the upcoming "Fantastic Four" movie, and we are shown a peek of their peek. (This clip makes my husband the geek say "oooooohhhh.") The "Fantastic Four" actors are in the audience and Jessica Alba tells everyone to see it - twice.
