They've gotten rid of the sideshow that was Sanjaya, and they've jettisoned the powerhouse talent of Mindy Do. So what's left to see at the circus that is "American Idol"? Just the guy sweeping up the sawdust. The elephants, acrobats and dogs in poufy skirts that walk on their hind legs have left the big top.
The remaining two finalists vie for the season-six title at 8 p.m. Tuesday on WJW Channel 8. Wednesday's results show will be two hours long. That's 120 minutes or 7,200 seconds. Idol Talk is stocking up on NoDoz and dark roast fair-trade coffee in preparation. Get ready for an extended Ford commercial featuring acting on par with that of a high school production of "Cats." To be fair, the finalists are young.
Jordin "Pretty Betty" Sparks is a junior at Sandra Day O'Connor High School in Glendale, Ariz., and at 25, "Beat Box" Blake Lewis, from Bothell, Wash., looks like he could be her classmate -- in that scruffy, "21 Jump Street" sort of way. (At 29, Melinda Doolittle proved too doddering for the "Idol" voting bloc who were text messaging in the wom b.)
Who will win? Who knows? If any does, it's the Plain Dealer's IT Girl Andrea Simakis, whose been following the contest for week's in her weekly Idol Talk column.
She's prepared a special pre-finals "Idol Talk" analysis. You can read the whole thing here.
